Principal's Message
NEP 2020 aims at producing engaged, productive and contributing citizens for building an equitable, inclusive and plural society as envisaged by our Constitution. One of the fundamental principles that will guide the education system under NEP 2020 is recognising, identifying and fostering the unique capabilities of each student, by sensitising teachers as well as parents to promote each student’s holistic development in both academic and non-academic spheres. NEP 2020 offers opportunities for holistic development of students in academic as well as non-academic spheres by developing critical thinking, problem solving and creative skills. It not only envisages to change the ways in which students are taught but also the methods in which they are evaluated and assessed, trained and prepared for the global job markets, mentored to face the challenges in their career and life, encouraged to take calculated risks and contribute towards innovation, motivated to harness skill acquisition and venture into entrepreneurship development. This policy aims to foster creative, analytical and critical thinking among students in order to achieve the goals of higher education in their real sense. It promotes adoption of innovative teaching pedagogies like problem-based, inquiry-based, design-based, context-based, outcome-based, competency-based, activity-based, team-based, project-based, evidence-based, collaborative and experiential learning. NEP-2020 seeks to impart multi-disciplinary and holistic education to students with a view to produce multi-dimensional, well-rounded individuals equipped with all types of knowledge, skills, competencies and understanding about life, people, places, arts, sciences, languages and technologies. Under NEP, students will get an opportunity to learn about arts and humanities too while pursuing sciences, technology, commerce, law or social studies and vice-versa since multi-disciplinary courses, in addition to ability-enhancement, skill-enhancement and value-added courses will be offered during an under-graduate degree programme.
The credit system facilitated by Academic Bank of Credits allows students flexibility to move from one disciplinary area of study to another within the duration of study, opportunity for learners to choose the subject/learning area of interest and facilitates multiple entry and exit options with certificate/diploma/degree depending upon the number of credits secured. The curriculum framework under NEP 2020 will offer students a variety of courses as per their area of interest such as open electives, vocational skill courses, skill enhancement courses, ability enhancement courses, value education courses, co-curricular activities, internships/apprenticeships, field projects/community services and research projects. NEP 2020 offers students a choice to pursue either a 3 year or 4 year Under-Graduate Programme with multiple exit options within this period. A student can get a certificate after completing 1 year (2 semesters) of study in the chosen fields of study, a diploma after 2 years (4 semesters) of study, a bachelor’s degree after a 3-year (6 semesters) programme of study or a bachelor’s degree with honours after a 4-year (8 semesters) programme of study or a bachelor’s degree with research after a 4-year (8 semesters) programme of study if the student completes a rigorous research project in their major area of study. There will be flexibility in the design and duration of Master’s degree programmes also. A student who has completed the 3-year bachelor’s degree programme can pursue a 2-year master’s degree programme with the second year devoted entirely to research and a student who has completed a 4-year Bachelor’s degree programme with research can pursue a 1-year master’s degree programme.
The Government of Maharashtra, Higher Education Department is pleased to announce that the following autonomous colleges….. will be implementing NEP 2020 from the current academic year 2023-24. This will prove to be an important milestone in the educational landscape of Maharashtra as these autonomous colleges take the initiative in leading the implementation of NEP 2020. These efforts ensure creation of a new education system that is aligned with the aspirational goals of 21st century education, while building upon India’s traditions and value systems.
