About Gymkhana
The Gymkhana at Nagindas Khandwala College is a dedicated body constituted in accordance with University norms to cultivate a vibrant sports culture, promote physical fitness, and nurture athletic talent among students.
The Gymkhana oversees competitive tournaments, recreational activities, coaching support, sports infrastructure, and student participation in external competitions. Through its diverse initiatives, it encourages discipline, teamwork, sportsmanship, resilience, and holistic student development.
Structure & Governance
The Gymkhana functions under a structured leadership team to ensure effective sports administration, coordination, and implementation of sporting initiatives.
- Convenor: Mr. Thomson Thomas leads the committee and supervises the planning and execution of sports-related activities.
- Executive Team: A team of four faculty members assists the Convenor in organizing tournaments, coordinating student participation, and managing sporting initiatives.
- Coaching & Mentorship: Professional coaches are appointed to identify, select, train, and guide students for intercollegiate, university, state, and national-level competitions.
Core Activities & Events
- Intra-College Competitions: Annual tournaments are organized to encourage extensive student participation in indoor games such as Chess, Carrom, and Table Tennis.
- Inter-Division Tournaments: Competitive matches are conducted among different college divisions in Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Kabaddi, and other indoor and outdoor sports.
- Annual Athletic Meet: The flagship track-and-field event of the College provides students with opportunities to demonstrate their speed, strength, endurance, and athletic ability.
- External Competitions: The committee manages student registrations, selection, training, participation, and logistics for Inter-College, Inter-University, State-Level, and National-Level competitions.
Facilities & Support Services
- Campus Infrastructure: The NKC campus includes a dedicated Gymkhana area equipped with indoor sports equipment and other resources required for student practice and participation.
- Medical Safety: Fully stocked First Aid boxes are permanently maintained in the Gymkhana office to address injuries and medical requirements arising during training sessions or matches.
- Academic Synergy: The College’s sporting ecosystem is connected with sports-oriented academic and co-curricular activities, encouraging students to balance academic learning with physical development.
- Recognition & Rewards: Students achieving distinction in sports are recognized and felicitated during prize-distribution programmes to acknowledge their efforts and motivate continued excellence.
Notable Achievements
- Track & Field: Nehali Borawale and Aruri Laxmi Prasanna led the track-and-field contingent, competing at the National level in events including the 100-metre hurdles, 200-metre race, and Hammer Throw.
- Throwing Events: Tanish Desale and Anvesha Rahate achieved significant success in Discus Throw and Shot Put, progressing to State and National-level competitions.
- Boxing: Ayushi Yadav demonstrated strong performance in Boxing at the Zonal level.
- Swimming: Shah Hetavi brought honour to the institution by competing in Swimming at the National level.
- Volleyball: Reeva Mehta, Shreya Kalathiya, and Shruti Korde demonstrated exceptional skill by progressing through District, Zonal, and State competitions to reach the National level. Krishna Gohil also represented the College at the State level.
- Taekwondo: Ms. Vasundhara Chede of TYBBA delivered an impressive performance at the State and National-level Taekwondo Championships.
- Hammer Throw: Aruri Laxmi Prasanna of FYBA won a Gold Medal in the Maharashtra State Junior Athletic Championship.
- Archery: Khanna Ayush of FYBSM secured fourth place in the Inter-Zonal Archery Championship of the University of Mumbai and participated in the All-India Inter-University Archery Championship.
- Inter-Zonal Volleyball Championship: The Zone II Girls’ Volleyball Team secured first place in the University of Mumbai Inter-Zonal Volleyball Tournament.
- College Representation: Gohil Krishna, Korde Shruti, Mehta Reeva, Mehta Riddhi, and Kalathiya Shreya represented the College and contributed to winning the University of Mumbai Inter-Zonal Volleyball Tournament title.
